Many employees love their jobs, they just don’t like their bosses. Good talent is hard to find and, believe it or not, your management skills is what is keeping your great employees around. If you don’t have a manager with “good boss” traits then your employees will discover this and take their talent elsewhere.
What qualities should a good boss possess?
A good boss allows open communication and shows respect toward his employees. A good boss is an active listener and never embarrasses employees in front of others. They are discreet when they punish employees. They do not dwell on employee mistakes and celebrate success often.
A good boss possess certain qualities that others do not: they want to help others, focus on solutions and not problems, they appreciate diversity amongst employees; they are natural and effective leaders.
A good boss is fair and patient. A good boss is an unbiased mediator when problems occur between employees. A good boss is open to suggestions to solving issues.
A good boss is consistent and transparent. A good boss recognizes and appreciates change and encourages employees to do so as well.
