Are you waking up in a panic, rushing out the door sliding into your shoes, spilling your coffee all while simultaneously sending emails? This sounds like most people in the morning and quite frankly how I used to be. Do not fret I have four simple and very doable steps to make your day more productive. Let’s begin with the night before…
Take Notes & To-Dos: Keep a To-Do list on paper, your phone on a board…whichever works best for you where you can jot down any ideas and tasks that you plan to accomplish that next day or throughout the week. This will allow you to have your thoughts in one place. I’ve also come to notice I sleep better once I’ve spilled all my thoughts into my digital blackberry To Do list.
Create Routine in Your Life: Ok, so this one may not be as easy but it will become easy. Wake up, brew coffee, shower, get ready, and send emails… this will soon become you set on auto pilot. If you start to structure your routine properly you will accomplish more in the a.m. without even knowing it. Save that brain power for the real decisions once you get into the office.
Big or Small; Just Do It: You may choose to start from with the biggest task for the day to get it over with right away or maybe this morning you are feeling a tad sluggish so doing some of the easier tasks like checking emails is more your speed first. Either way you are accomplishing your tasks right off the bat and can start the day feeling like you are on the right foot.
Take a Moment of Me Time: Take a jog, do yoga, take a long hot relaxing shower; anything to get your mind off work and the day ahead. Often times I find I get the best ideas for projects and work while something for me that is irrelevant to that work. Try running! Some of my best ideas have come to me during a long run.
Take a minute to breathe and accomplish great things today!
